Important Information to consider when choosing Childcare & Holiday provision:

Registration
Is the setting registered with ofsted?
OFSTED register and inspect any out of school setting that looks after children under 8 and is open for more than 2 hours a day for more than 6 days per year.  Ofsted conduct certain checks such as Health and Safety and Criminal Records.  Ofsted also check to ensure that staff are suitable to look after children.  At least half the staff must hold a level 2 qualification in childcare or playwork and the leader must hold a level 3 qualification.  There are rules regarding ratio’s of staff to children depending on the ages of children attending.
Settings that cater for children 8 years and over do not need to be registered with Ofsted.
Settings can choose to register on the voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare register.  This ensures that the setting meets certain quality standards.
If a Holiday Club or Playscheme provide no more than two activities from the following list they do not need to be registered.

  • School study support or homework support
  •    Sport
  •    Performing arts
  •    Arts and crafts
  •    Religious, cultural or language study
